How Many Units of Botox do Men Require

While Botox is a common cosmetic technique used to treat wrinkles in women, men have shown an increasing interest in Botox therapy in recent years. The procedure is becoming more popular among men who wish to look young and confident at work and in their social lives. Botox definitely benefits both genders, but given their biological differences, there could be some differences in terms of how Botox is administered to men and women.

So how many units of Botox do men require? Since men's facial muscles are stronger than women's, they frequently require more Botox units, specifically 2 to 3 times more than women. The number of units required will be determined mostly by the regions to be treated: frown lines, forehead lines, or crow’s feet, among many other kinds of wrinkles.

How Much Botox Do Men Need?

Men's facial muscles are often stronger than women's. This means that men require a few more units of Botox – up to 2 to 3 times as much as women – to get comparable outcomes. This implies that areas like forehead lines may require 10 to 20 units for males, while areas like crow's feet may require 20 to 60 units for women, however, 50 is generally the most Botox units injected.

However, no two individuals are the same, and each requires a unique treatment plan to establish how many units of Botox are required. The only way to know for certain how many units are required to provide the desired outcomes is to schedule a consultation with an expert.

1) Frown Lines

Male patients typically need between 5 and 7 units per site, for a total of 30 to 40 units distributed equally.

2) Forehead Lines

The number of locations might range from three to eight, depending on the objective of softening the lines and retaining some mobility while avoiding total paralysis. To avoid brow ptosis, keep your eyes at least 2 to 3 cm away from the orbital ridge. So, for a man, roughly 20 to 30 units are injected.

3) Crow’s Feet

These are a result of muscular action as well as photo aging. It's preferable to soften rather than remove these rhytides, as this results in a more natural appearance. The lateral lid canthal laxity and lower eyelid retraction should be assessed. The snap test is used to see if there is any evidence of scleral show. The region is addressed if the lower eyelid integrity and location are excellent. Typically, 12 to 16 units are administered across the same 2 to 5 injection sites in men. Additional intradermal injections of 1 to 2 units to elevate a blip 3 to 4 mm below the ciliary line at the mid-pupil location can enhance the situation even more.

4) Bunny Lines

These are caused by the nasalis transverse fiber and occur on the side of the nose. They're frequently incorporated in glabella line treatments, especially in women. They go from maxilla to maxilla, and the aponeurosis of the procerus muscle may join it.

To avoid an upper lip drop and lower eyelid epiphora, there are 2 to 3 injection sites, 2 laterally 1cm above the maxilla and 1cm distant from the medial orbicularis. Women usually receive 2 to 5 units per injection location, plus 1 unit in the midline if necessary. This therapy isn’t given to men in general. If they receive the therapy, they’ll receive one additional unit per injection location.

5) Perioral Area

For males, each injection site dosage is up to 2 units. Regardless of the arrangement of lines, the sites are symmetrically situated on the top lip. The lower lip can be treated, however, it’s rarely done because of the increased risk of result imbalance and oral incontinence.

6) Dimples

Male patients are less likely to seek Botox treatment for the dimples. The dimpled appearance is due to the loss of subcutaneous fat and collagen, as well as the activity of the mentalis muscle. A greater dose of up to 12 units is used over two injection sites if a male requires treatment. The usage of filler might help you get a better result.

Factors That Determine How Much Botox You May Need

Though the location of the treated region is the most important aspect in determining how many units of Botox are required, there are a few additional considerations to consider. Muscular strength, muscle characteristics, muscle use, and metabolism are among them.

1) Muscle Strength and Characteristics

Muscular strength and other muscle features may also need to be tested in order to determine how many units of Botox you'll require. Gender has a significant effect on this: men, on average, require more Botox units than women due to their thicker face muscles.

2) Muscle Thickness

When estimating how many units of Botox you'll need, muscle strength and thickness in the face are crucial factors to consider.

This is especially true when it comes to the muscles of the forehead. Obviously, muscles that are stronger and thicker will require more Botox than ones that are weaker and thinner.

3) Muscle Use

The way people utilize their face muscles and which muscles are used the most differs from person to person.

As a result, assessing how many Botox units are required must be done on an individual basis. However, depending on how frequently face muscles are used, some fundamental generalizations may be drawn.

Repeated face motions might weaken muscles over time, necessitating additional Botox units.

4) Metabolism

Metabolism, which is defined as "the breakdown of food and its translation into energy," is another factor to consider when determining how many Botox units you'll need and how often you'll need them.

Again, because everyone's metabolism is different, this is a component that must be taken into account individually. Your body may digest Botox injections at a different rate than others.

The common side effects of Botox usually last 3 to 4 months. People with a faster metabolism or who are physically active may require more Botox or injections more frequently. The human body is constantly producing new neurotransmitters. The effects of Botox begin to fade as these new neurotransmitters are spread throughout your body.

Simply explained, exercising raises your metabolism, which causes the Botox effects to fade faster.
